Myomas, also known as uterine fibroids, are noncancerous growths that develop in the muscular wall of the uterus. They are the most common type of noncancerous tumor in women, affecting up to 80% of women by the age of 50. Myomas can range in size from small, pea-sized growths to large, bulky tumors that can distort the shape of the uterus.
While myomas are usually not life-threatening, they can cause a variety of symptoms, including heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, urinary problems, and infertility. In some cases, myomas can also lead to complications such as anemia, miscarriage, and premature birth.
