Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) is an inorganic, colorless, odorless, non-flammable, extremely potent greenhouse gas. It is the most potent greenhouse gas that is currently in use. SF6 is used in a variety of industrial and commercial applications, including:
- Electrical insulation in high-voltage equipment
- Soundproofing in windows
- Fire suppressant in aircraft and data centers
Due to its high global warming potential, the use of SF6 is being phased out in many countries. However, there are still a number of applications where SF6 is the only viable option.
